Beers and dinner at St. Elias Brew Co.

Our Air BnB in Kenai had a hot tub, so we decided to take it easy tonight and chill there and reflect on the AMAZING trip we've had so far!

Day Five | August 28, 2019

Our hosts here in Kenai were AMAZING! Jim and Lisa went above and beyond for each and every detail (down to a popcorn maker, premade burrito's and snacks in the fridge and tons of outdoor yard games). They woke up early to make us a full breakfast before our big day and to chat and get to personally know us!

We decided we were going to just drive today to try and find some lighthouses and beaches. We came to a beach where you could see an oil rig way out there!

After failed attempts to find lighthouses, we headed back into Kenai to check out their visitor center which had a walking path along the river!

Next place on the "you should visit" checklist for the area was the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

Grabbin' a snack/light lunch at the Soldotna local farmers market! Halibut Taco's AKA, heaven on earth from "Yo Tacos".

We made dinner on the grill, relaxed, watched tv and then headed out just before sunset to the Kenai beach!

You can actually see the mountain range off in the distance!

Day Six | August 29, 2019

We woke up late, HURRY! We had been looking forward to Homer, AK since we started planning this vacation and didn't want to waste a minute!

The town of Homer is on a spit off the very tip of the Kenai peninsula and is full of adventures. The shops, restaurants, docks and how they're built to handle the water's ever changing attitude is enough to drop your jaw.

We had some lunch along the spit with Matt and Alie in the back of their van!

We HAD to get our ticket for the Halibut derby. The jackpot prize for the largest halibut of the season is $10,000 plus .50 cents per ticket sold (there's roughly 25,000 tickets sold each year). I was NOT about to lose out, the ocean is full of opportunity sizes! The 2018 winner was a GIRL and her halibut weighed in at 221.4 lbs! A MONSTER! But let me tell you, when you walk in and see all the pictures of these halibut you think BIG is the only option. You see kids with 100 lb fish pictures hanging on the wall!

Next was dinner, with a twist. Dinner was in Halibut Cove and you had to take a ferry boat there.

The boat ride was amazing, we saw Orca whales, otters and more!

Just coming into the cove was a sight in itself.

Two questions popped into my head, WHY do people live way out here? and HOW do I live way out here?
